On the eve of the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre, dozens of victims and survivors have begun sharing on social media the personal messages they sent on the morning of the attack, messages that have since become powerful testimony to the harrowing moments they and their families endured.

This week marks the third anniversary of the massacre. Participants in the initiative are publishing messages and conversations from that morning and encouraging the public to look through their phones and saved conversations from that day and share them as well.
“We are calling on each and every one of you, even if you were not directly affected by the massacre, to look back at your messages from that fateful day,” the public appeal stated. “Please share your own messages from October 7 as well. We are all October 7; we are all victims of the failure, directly or indirectly.”
Among those taking part is Shir Matias, daughter of Shahar and Shlomi, who were murdered in Kibbutz Holit. Matias shared the conversation from her family WhatsApp group that morning. Amid the horrific events unfolding around them, she wrote three devastating words to her family:
“Mom and Dad are dead.”
Viki Cohen, mother of Nimrod Cohen, a survivor of captivity, also shared messages from that day. After receiving photographs and videos showing her son’s abduction, she said she tried to contact every possible IDF official in search of answers. One of the messages she shared read:
“Why is no one answering us?”
Eyal Eshel, father of Roni Eshel, an IDF observer who was killed in the line of duty, shared the final correspondence he had with his daughter. In a message Roni sent to her mother that morning, she tried to reassure her:
“Mom, I’m okay. Don’t worry about me. I love you too.”
Einav Zangauker, mother of Matan, who survived captivity, also revisited her final correspondence with her son before he was abducted and taken to Gaza. Matan’s messages to his family documented what was happening around him in those terrifying moments:
“They’re speaking Arabic. They’re right outside the door. You can hear screams everywhere. I love you. Don’t cry.”
Noam Peri, daughter of the late Haim Peri, who was abducted and later killed in captivity, also joined the initiative. She shared a message written by her mother, Osnat, after Haim was taken from their home:
“Terrorists broke into our house and took Haim.”
